Jersika Records is jazz music record label founded by Mareks Ameriks in Riga, Latvia, in autumn 2017.
Obsessed with quality of sound and production, Jersika Records release unique live and studio recordings of a wide range of moods – from more traditional and groovier to out - there and abstract.
Currently, the label's catalog includes more than forty released albums, recorded by both Latvian and foreign musicians. Several of the released albums have been nominated and awarded as the best jazz music albums of the year in Latvia at the annual music recording award "Golden Microphone", as well as reviewed in leading world jazz media such as "Downbeat", "The Wire", "The New York City Jazz Record", "All About Jazz", "Jazz Journal" etc.
Label releases its records on vinyl and as exclusive tape editions, as well as offers them for purchase digitally or for streaming. Most of the recordings are made completely analog, "live" without any digital involvement and are released in the analog series JRA, while the JRD, or digital series, contains digitally recorded albums. The label has its own studio "Jersika Records studio", as well as its own mobile studio, which has made recordings at Nurme Church, Spīķeri Concert Hall, jazz house "M/Darbnīca" and concert hall "Latvija" in Ventspils. The label has also collaborated with the Riga sound recording studio at the Reformed Church and the Latvian Radio studio. The label collaborates most closely with sound director Mārtiņš Krastiņš, but the released albums have also been recorded by such sound engineers as Gustavs Ērenpreiss, Gatis Zaķis, Tālis Timrots, Varis Kurmiņš, Krišs Veismanis, Olivers Tarvids and Kaspars Putriņš.
Jersika Records has also produced and released three documentaries - in collaboration with Latvian Television director's Emīls Alps film "A RENAISSANCE MAN (2021) , and two films about the history of Latvian jazz - "ON PIANO - JACK MICHALICKY! THE FIRST KNOWN LATVIAN JAZZ PIANIST (2020) and "KIKOK 1962 | THE FIRST LATVIAN JAZZ FESTIVAL" (2023). Two concert films have also been published - "IDENTITIES. THE RECORDING" (2020) and "LIVE AT THE PEAT AMPHITHEATER SOLSTICE" (2023). Label's YouTube channel features the broadcast series "Jersika Records Chronicles" and "What's in Your Bag?", as well as video teasers for all released albums, as well as concert videos and filmed videos.
The financial support provided by the State Cultural Capital Fund helps to maintain good dynamics in the work of the label, for which "Jersika Records" is very grateful.
